A Short Autobiography of Sameer Grover

Sameer Grover is an author, poet, and a teacher. He is currently teaching mathematics at Sir Allan MacNab secondary school in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He is the author of Poetic Parables volumes one and two and of several short stories and articles.

Sameer was born on April 13, 1980 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario to his father Ashok Kumar and to his mother Meenakshi. Five years later his brother Shawn was born. Sameer began writing at a very young age. He was probably about five or six years old when he wrote his first stories. As a young boy at Earl Kitchener elementary school in Hamilton Sameer was known equally for his creative and imaginative stories as well as for his prowess in mathematics. Sameer began to seriously write poetry when he was in high school at Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton. Throughout his years at high school and university it was poetry that was his most preferred genre of writing. It would be several years before he returned to other forms of writing again.

Sameer graduated with an Honours degree in Mathematics and Statistics from McMaster University in 2003 after four years of study. It was during his time at McMaster that his interest in spiritual life blossomed. At McMaster he learned the art and science of meditation. This practice of meditation has become one of the most valuable life tools that Sameer carries with him.

In 2004, Sameer attended the University of Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand where he completed his Diploma in Teaching. This time in Auckland was a period of great personal transformation for Sameer and it was here that he began to develop his skills and his craft as a writer. While in Auckland he wrote several pieces of short fiction and began to find his niche as a writer.

In January of 2005 he returned to McMaster for a semester to complete his minor in religious studies. Upon his return to McMaster he wrote for the Silhouette, the campus newspaper, and his articles were widely acclaimed and appreciated by the student body.

In September of 2005 he fully completed the transition from student to teacher and began teaching mathematics at Orchard Park Secondary School in Stoney Creek, Ontario. As a teacher Sameer uses holistic teaching strategies and teaches his students not just about mathematics but teaches them about life in general. Sameer most recently landed a position at Sir Allan MacNab in February of 2006 where he is currently teaching.

In addition to teaching mathematics Sameer also teaches meditation and creative writing (two of his foremost hobbies). Sameer spends a great deal of his spare time both meditating and writing. This website is designed as a forum to display some of Sameer’s writing.
